Happy Birthday,

Happy Birthday,
Michael Gambon!
I really hope that you have a good day.
And I hope that you get lots of presents, namely, some books.
And I really hope that you READ them.
And, I hope that, after reading, you are really convicted about what a pitiful job you did portraying Dumbledore.
And I hope that you get your act together for this next movie, if you have the time.
That’d be great. It is not too late to redeem yourself.
Happy Birthday, again.

Some Links For Y’all

Some Links For Y’all
I rarely like T-shirts, for me, but these are really cool.

This has a name that I do not really like, but, as far as I’m concerned, it is magical for the skin of babies.

Speaking of babies, this is a great book for them. There are some really creative people in this world.

I’m going to try the recipe for this soon. It looks scrumptious. Breakfast food and apples, mmmmm.

Also, I wanted to remind you that the finale to Project Runway is Wednesday, 10/18. I’ve already looked at the collections online…and I think it is still anyone’s game. But, I will say that Uli might just win– or Jeffrey, if he is still in it.

Boo to the Rainy Monday

Boo to the Rainy Monday
Well, my apple picking outing was sabotaged last week by sickness and this week by rain, rain, and more rain. Boo. Of course, I could pick apples any day, but the frugal girl who inhabits a large part of my consciousness just won’t allow it. On Modays, one doesn’t have to pay the entry charge at the orchard. They call it the “Apple Knocker Day” and it is for hard core pickers — or so they say on the website. Maybe next Monday.

I’m searching for new recipes to make for the family. Well, for the 5 members of the family that eat food on a regular basis. My 6 year old has basically decided that he doesn’t like food unless it comes in a bag that you get at a drive thru (we rarely do this, so why he likes it so — I have no idea), or is white bread, or certain kinds of cheese, or perhaps pineapple. He hasn’t resorted to photosynthesis, yet, but he is getting kind of close. Someday, when he writes his autobiography, it will probably be entitled, Bread and Cheese for Dinner. But, I digress. What I really wanted to say, was that I found this page with lots of recipes that I want to try. Just mostly simple, basic food. Most of it I can change to be gluten-free, too. And, of course, I should say that I will be converting the recipes so that they can mostly be made with ingredients purchased at Aldi. There she is again, that frugal girl. But, with all but one of my children eating like crazy there is no affording Whole Foods. There just ain’t.

Guess I’ll go now. My big goal for today is to alter my winter pants. It seems like the coolish weather might be here to stay, so my waistbands must be altered so that I don’t feel like I’m going to lose my pants while walking in the parking lot after church. Because, you know, that would be truly awful.

Happy rainy Monday, y’all.

Things These Boys Say….

Things These Boys Say….

After hearing me say the word “reckon” in a sentence, #1 said, “Mom, why do you say that word, reckon? Is it because you’re from west……Alabama?”

The other day, #2 was talking to his brother about the different kinds of precipitation that we get here in St. Louis, “You know, snow is kind of just rain, only frozen. They are both made of the same thing — water. Snow is just a lot colder, and, you know, it tastes better.”

#3 joined me in bed one morning last week. He often does this, but he usually just communicates by nods and giving me little smooch as a good morning greeting. This particular morning he was obviousely thinking about something. I told him “Good Morning” and gave him a kiss. He responded by asking me, “Mom, why is there gravity on Earth?”

#4 can now tell what we’re having for dinner just by looking at the ingredients that are out on the counter and by the pots and pans on the stove. Before dinner the other night, he walked through and said, after looking around, “Oh, pasta, I WUB pasta.”

My precious sons.
