First Day of School

First Day of School
Today is the first day of school for Jon and for all the boys. Whew. I hope that the boys are doing okay. They all walked into the building this morning without looking back — but they did let me give them each a kiss before they left — so that was okay. I think that we’re all kind of tired of each other at the moment, so that worked to our advantage. The youngest and I did errands this morning to take my mind off them being at school and to take his mind off the fact that he wasn’t allowed to go to school with them. And, after three stores, a run through at McD’s, car keys left in a store, purse dumped by three year old (in a parking lot) while he was trying to help look, waking up before the sun, a malfunctioning van door, the dog up on the couch where he is forbidden, my yelling at the dog, the boys laughing at me when I was yelling at the dog (they were in the van and I was in the house and they still heard me — I know, so very ladylike), a forgotton camera, a return trip for a camera, many bathroom accidents, the youngest jumping on me while I was sleeping, me thinking that I would put in my 2 week notice if this was a job that I could quit, the youngest who is having problems hearing words unless I have repeated myself at least 4 times — all day long — and eating a piece of chocolate cake, I would like to say that I am *so* not ready for the next round.

His Acorn Is Working

His Acorn Is Working
For those of you who don’t have a clue about the title of this post, I’ll explain briefly. I tried to potty train my youngest a few months ago. I failed. And we decided to try later. But, during the first try at training, my son said to me, “Can’t do it. My acorn isn’t working.” I’ll leave you to guess what his acorn is.

So, today, I decided to try again. Jon and the other boys had plans to be in and out, and we didn’t even have electricity to distract us, since it went off in yesterday’s storm. He did a pretty good job and ended up eating lots of chocolate (as treats) before the day was up. He is a funny little boy. After what was like, his third accident of the morning, I called out to him, “Are your underwear still dry?” He replied, “Yes.” I asked, “What are you doing over there?” His answer, “Oh, I’m playing in this puddle.” Lovely.

The good thing is that, when I’m done buying diapers for him, I’m done buying diapers.

The Slacker Mom Has Been Reading Again

The Slacker Mom Has Been Reading Again
I took sort of a mini-vacation this week. Where did I go? Well, nowhere. But I did read 2 books and my house is a wreck — the boys and man have been fed and are wearing clean clothes, however, so don’t assume the worst. First, I read Grace, Eventually, by Anne Lamott. This is the first book that I’ve read by her. I think that I’ll definitely check out some of her other ones, now. Then, I read Atonement, by Ian McEwan. Mainly, I read this because one of my friends recommended it to me when I asked her about it. And, the reason I asked her about it is that the movie based on the book is coming out sometime this fall. If it gets decent ratings, I’ll probably go see it. Finally, I’ve just started Moonstone, by Wilkie Collins. This is supposedly the definitive British detective/mystery novel. But, I won’t be speed reading it because I’ll be trying to figure it out, also, I’ve got some stuff to straighten up around here.

So, that’s where I’ve been. On another note, Jon just acquired a free way COOL chair that I’ll be reupholstering really soon and I promise, promise that I’m going to blog my progress step-by-step. It might be complicated — so that might be interesting.
