Fungus Identified and Other Mundane Stuff

Fungus Identified and Other Mundane Stuff
Well, we have identified our fungus. And, no, I didn’t get to name it. Bummer. The identity of our fungus is Tree Bread which, I guess, is a cool enough name. One fellow on the web reported his Tree Bread grows back at the same time each year. So I’m looking forward to that. And, I am grateful to now be more acquainted with the whole fungus world. It is creepily-awesome.

Project Runway last night was good. I am glad that the folks that re-exited and Kayne who bid goodbye for the first time, did so. And, while I’m glad that Laura got to stay, sort-of, I really don’t believe that she should have won. Her dress was fine. Uli’s was a little problematic and Jeffrey’s was a disater — something only Gwen Stefani might wear, and probably not even she would. Only Michael made a completely stunning dress. I don’t know much about this fashion thing, but unless the goal of the project is marketability of a piece, the one that should win is the one that is just the most amazing — design and construction-wise. Michael should have won. Just because Laura deviated from her usual form doesn’t mean that she should win. It seems like a slap in the face to me because he, Michael, has been versatile and ingenious from the beginning. Just my 2 cents.

That is all for now. It has been a good week and I’m beginning to see what my autumn will be like, I think, with the 3 oldest at school and #4 with me all day. One of these days, I’m going to write a little about each of them. They’ve done some hilarious things lately. Also, I’ll probably be reporting about my upcoming projects and about some good food for y’all to try. So, y’all come back, ya hear?

There’s a Fungus Among Us, I Think

There’s a Fungus Among Us, I Think
Have a look at this interesting specimen that sprouted in my backyard last week. In all, we had five of them. And now, they have lost the beautiful orange color and have changed to sort of an ecru in addition to looking really ragged. I couldn’t find any information on this type of growth anywhere. I did, in the process of looking, find out lots of things about fungi that I didn’t know before. I think that they are incredibly beautiful, in a sort of creepy way. I really hope that I have made a new discovery, because it would be my pleasure to name a fungus. Wouldn’t that be cool? When naming a fungus, you really have to do it right. I mean with Dog’s Vomit Slime Mold and Witch’s Butter to compete with…..how about “McGregor’s Orange”(to describe the cabbage shape and the color)? Yep. McGregor’s Orange it is.

Here we have our fungus with a cute little boy who posed with it to lend some scale to the picture.

Project Lunch, Project Runway

Project Lunch, Project Runway

The boys had a good first 2 days at school. Yahoo. So far, everything is working out well. All they have to do is to start eating lunch faster — they keep coming home with lots of lunch leftover. They complain of not having time to eat it. And, maybe I believe them. I do know that #1 is usually too distracted to eat lunch anywhere. I know also that #2 likes to talk to his classmates much more than eat. I do know that #3 is sometimes quiet and focused. He managed to get his lunch eaten today. So, we shall see. I don’t feel concerned about it yet. They need to figure it out, though. They look like walking skeletons to me. At least they are remembering to drink their milk.

I’m looking forward to watching Project Runway Wednesday night. Michael is my favorite — has been since the coffee filter dress. And I didn’t even know that he grew up in Montgomery until today. I also like Uli. I really hope that one of them wins the whole thing. So far, they have both had really strong beginnings. Kayne might also have a shot — but versatility-wise he just doesn’t have the chops, in my opinion. If you have cable and haven’t caught the show yet, I would encourage you to give it a look. It isn’t too late to jump on for this season.

That is the end of my boring post. 🙂 Y’all have a good day.

First Day of School

First Day of School
Today is the first day of school for the 3 oldest and for Jon.
Whew. I hope that everyone has a good day. I hope — and I eat some chocolate for good measure. I’m always glad when the first day is over. It is a bit of a mountain in my mind. You know, this might be a whole bar of chocolate day.

The 2 year old, Tater Head (Papa Ta-Ta) and I are going to the store to get my mind off everything.

I think that the first day of school is harder for the ones that stay behind.
