Looks Like Winter

Looks Like Winter
It is so windy and gray out there today. Maybe snow is on the way? The Southerner in me wants to rush out and buy bread, milk, beer, etc. — just in case. Well, maybe I’ll do that since I need some stuff anyway. We were on our way out the door this morning when my youngest turned to me, and protesting the coat that I had just put on him, said, “I don’t need dis coat. You just blow some hot air out there!” Like I can control the weather. Seriously, if I had that kind of mojo does he really think that I’d waste it on the weather? I’d be much more likely to put it to work on getting him trained and cleaning up all the other assorted messes in my life over which I don’t have total control. You know?

Brushing Teeth

Brushing Teeth
So, the other night, I was brushing my oldest son’s teeth. I do this every night, despite his need to do things independently, because you know teeth are not the easiest or cheapest things to fix once messed up. Anyway, as I was brushing I noticed that I was having to hold my arms up higher than usual and thought to myself that he must be standing on a book or something. Yep. He was standing on something — his feet.

I’m now officially one of those people who are continually surprised by the growth of their children, the passage of time, etc.

A Smattering of Thoughts

A Smattering of Thoughts
I’m disorganized, brain-wise, today. So, I guess that I’ll do a little recap of Thanksgiving. My parents came up for the holiday. We had a great time with them. I made some old and new recipes this year. Repeats were the dressing, squash casserole and salad (becasue it really wasn’t a recipe), the mashed potatoes and the rolls. New successes were the pumpkin praline pie, maple sweet potatoes, fresh cranberry relish with Grand Marnier, and the ham. Both the ham and pastry recipes came from the current issue of Cook’s Illustrated. I urge y’all to give this issue a look, if you don’t already have a subscription. The pastry recipe was super easy to work with and very forgiving. I actually re-rolled the pastry and it *still* turned out okay. The surprise ingredient? Vodka. I kid you not.

I have to go now. My youngest is playing a song of his own creation on the piano and singing along. Guess what the words are? “Mommy, I have a poopy, will you change my poopy?”

Will this child ever be trained? Well, you know what I get to do now. Have a good Monday, everybody.

My Belt

My Belt
Well, here it is, as promised in the post yesterday.

And, as you can see in this picture, it’s reversible.

This is one of those rare sewing projects that is both inexpensive, fun and quick to make.

Next project: skirt.
