Menu Planning, Again

Menu Planning, Again
This time, I’m planning menus for my family. I got tired of running to the grocery store every day, so this week, I tried to get organized and make a list of recipes to take me through 2 weeks. So far, we’re four days into the plan, so I don’t know how it will all turn out. Here, however, is a list of the menus. I’ll make comments later and offer the recipes (if one turns out to be particularly good.)

Homemade Macaroni and Cheese/Oranges/Mixed green salad with almonds and cranberries

Chicken Fajitas/Rice/Pineapple

Homemade Pizza/Assorted Fruit/Salad

Dinner out

Spice Rubbed Turkey/Pan-Roasted Broccoli/Fruit/Potatoes

Spice Rubbed Turkey/Pan-Roasted Broccoli/Fruit/Potatoes

Leftovers/Salads or Sandwiches

Chicken Cutlets with Olive Relish/Sauteed Zucchini, Peppers and Tomatoes/Potatoes

Turkey, Bacon and Cheddar Sandwiches/Cherry Tomato Salad/Potatoes

Homemade Macaroni and Cheese/Salad/Fruit

Leftovers or Breakfast for Dinner

Broiled Salmon/Rice/Salad

Shredded Pork Tacos/Crunchy Slaw/Fruit (2)

So, we shall see what becomes of my strategizing.

A Rap From J

A Rap From J
My oldest son just finished a study of Charles Dickens. Here is a rap that he wrote about him.

Hey, this here is Charles Dickens,
On his own he learned to write,
He really, really, really is famous tonight.

It took time to write a story and he did it with style.
He’s a very great author with a very great smile.

He even wrote A Christmas Carol so give him three big cheers,
the children really listened with their 2 big ears.

He’s a fine writer too, and thanks for letting me read,
and helping Charles Dickens to take the lead.

Rowling Characters

Rowling Characters
Last week, I had an engagement that kept me away from my boys for most of Saturday. When I got home, I noticed that my kitchen looked nice and that Jon had washed dishes. He also informed me, “Did you see that I went Petunia Dursley on your countertops?”

Poor man, he is married to someone who belongs more to the Molly Weasley camp.

Which one are you — Molly or Petunia?

The Theme Song of My Life

The Theme Song of My Life
Recently, Jon and I watched the movie, Dan in Real Life. We liked it. Well, Jon liked it and I loved it. In fact, I recommend it to every one that I know who reads this blog. (Unlike the last movie that I recommended to y’all, this one doesn’t have profane language. Nothing like telling every church friend you know to watch a movie and then realize that it has the f-word multiple times…whoops!) Anyway, one of the things that I loved about this movie was the music. It was composed/scored/sung by Sondre Lerche. Among several great songs, a song called To Be Surprised is on there.

It’s the new theme song of my life. Give it a listen.
