Salads, a Skinny Lady and TV

Salads, a Skinny Lady and TV
And, no, this post isn’t about a skinny lady who sits around watching TV eating only salad.

First, I want to share a great salad dressing recipe with you. I don’t even have a title for the dressing. I got the recipe from a skinny little lady that goes to my church. She is an excellent hostess and a really great cook and makes *delicious* salads. Try this dressing. You won’t be sorry that you did.

Salad with Bacon and Shredded White Cheddar
Shredded White Cheddar
10-12 strips bacon, fried and crumbled

1/2 cup cider vinegar
1 cup oil
2 T. dried onion
1 T. dried parsley
1/2 t. salt
1/2 package cheese garlic salad dressing mix (from Good Seasons)
1/2 T. paprika
Simple syrup made with 1/2 cup sugar and 1 1/2 cups water

1. Make the simple syrup.
2. Let it cool.
3. Put everything but the oil in a blender.
4. Turn on blender and drizzle the oil in a thin stream until it is gone.

Toss the greens with dressing. Top with as much cheddar and bacon as you wish. Dressing will double, but you might have trouble getting it all in your blender.

Project Runway fans: don’t forget that we get a new one tonight. And, don’t read EW unless you want some of the suspense taken away from you.

Susannah and Trinny fans: The What Not to Wear girls have a new show tonight at 9 (I think). They will be checking on the fashion victims from previous shows to see if they are still following the rules.

Alright, there you have it. Skinny lady, TV and salad — that’s all I’ve got for today.

  1. Annie –

This salad looks interesting and good. Can’t wait to try it. Thanks for sharing it.

  2. Ooh. Nice salad– I love bacan and cheddar already, but the dressing is a nice touch I’ll have to try!

Just wanted to share a link– Barlow mentioned you’ve been re-reading Austen. Thought you might appreciate this: (try to read her entries from the beginning)

P.S. I still haven’t made it all the way through the Leithart book, but that’s probably because I keep trying to re-read each book for each chapter. It’s taken me a year so far to find the time to read two in between school stuff…good luck!

  3. I love white cheddar.

I finally bought a new pair of jeans, wish I could run them by the WNTW girls and they were only 30 bucks!

  4. Allison, thanks for that link. I’ll give it a look. I’m about halfway through the Leithart book, and it is a temptation for me to go back and reread each book.

April, I usually think that, if the WNTW girls were around, they would accuse me of not ever reading the books or watching the show — seriously. Is there a sale on jeans that I need to know about? My only pair is getting lonely.

Fittsy, you will love this salad. 🙂 Thanks for dropping in.

  5. Annie,
I bought jeans at American Eagle. Yes, I know how old I am, I was actually shopping for Ellen and saw these jeans and thought oooooh they have spandex, let’s try em. Also, I went into the story Papaya for Ellen and they had all kinds of cute jeans for 9.99, that’s where I found clothes for Ellen…they have some cute stuff and some really weird stuff but it’s all pretty cheap. Ellen and I both agreed that Hollister is too dark and too loud, I will never go into that creepy place again.

  6. The salad was a huge hit at dinner on Sunday with church friends. If your recipes are any indication, you’re a wonderful cook, Annie.

  7. Glad that you liked it, Fittsy. 🙂
