Our Thanksgiving Trip

Our Thanksgiving Trip

For the last couple of years, we’ve traveled over the short Thanksgiving holiday. This year was no different. So, we loaded up our boys at 5 on Wednesday and drove until we got to Alabama. We arrived just before midnight. That was just in time to wish this little boy

a happy birthday. He had a big birthday to celebrate (let’s say that it involves a seven and a zero) and it happened to fall on Thanksgiving this year. So my mom, Mama Suzie, invited his siblings up to celebrate the day with us.

A wonderful day was had by all. Mama Suzie had been baking and cooking and cleaning and decorating for days and it really showed. My mother is amazing.

It was wonderful seeing my uncles and aunts. I don’t get to see them very often — they’re a sweet bunch of people.

And, speaking of sweet, MEGA SWEET, would you just look at this little precious darling nephew of mine.

I couldn’t get enough of this little guy. I threatened to take him home with me but my sister rightly pointed out that he would make my suitcase very heavy and so I didn’t attempt it.

The day after Thanksgiving, we headed down to Mississippi to see the Barlow kin. The drive there was great. We drove through a deserted Tuscaloosa as 102,000 people cheered in the stadium and saw one of the most spectacular sunsets that I’ve ever laid my eyes on.

The next day we got to see our Barlows, which is always great, and also got to meet our new niece for the first time. Here she is with her Uncle Jon.

What a cutie.

I like getting together with my in-laws and all the various cousins. There is always a crowd and the food is always wonderful, thanks to my mother-in-law.

Then we got up on Sunday and drove and drove and drove some more until we got to St. Louis.

Now I must go and do the one thousand things on my to-do list beginning with getting J started on his BLASTED ACADEMICS and cleaning the windows of the SUV. If you check out J’s latest song on Wacktopia you’ll see that he sang it on the return trip. You’ll also see the 5 million fingerprints intermingled with canine kiss marks that completely cover the insides of the windows.

It may just take a whole bottle of Windex. Well, half a bottle, at least.

Y’all take care and have a good Tuesday!

  1. I think your cute nephew got the Gilliland straight across brows.
