Farewells and Rock and Roll

Farewells and Rock and Roll

So, last Friday, Jon and I brought home a new (to us) couch. It was a steal that I found on Craigslist. It was actually a little old lady’s couch. As far as I can determine, she either weighed 80 pounds or never sat on the thing because it looks very new. Which is great for us, since you know, things get used around here. It is green velvet — dark green — which we’ve decided is not us but fine, anyway. Here is a pic:

The whole reason I’m telling y’all this is that we put our old, truly broken down couch on the curb this morning. Cue the sobbing from E. He was upset when we brought the new couch home last week, hugging the old couch and singing it sad songs, but he eventually dried his tears and I made the mistake of thinking that the sorrow had come to an end. So, we took pictures of him on the curbed couch this morning and then we left for school.

As we rode to school I was hoping that he would get it together after waving the couch a tearful goodbye. It occurred to me that music might help. “Hey, E,” I said, “do you want to listen to some music?” He did. I just turned on what was in there, “Back in Black” from AC/DC that I have on loan from the library.

E listened to the beginning of the song and then sighed deeply and said, “Ahhhh, classic rock.”

All the tears were over. Thank you, Angus and all. I owe you one.

Weird, Is What It Is.

Weird, Is What It Is.

Ever have a dream that you just knew was REAL? Yes. I’m sure that we all have. Now, ever have a dream that you had a fabulous, wonderful, magnificent lipstick? Well, okay, maybe not. But I did have that dream last night. My subconscious messed around with my conscious to the extent that I was halfway through a purse rummage for the lipstick this morning when I remembered that I did not have it to begin with.

I mean, really.

Today, J at Wacktopia is singing a villain song. He just loves villain songs. So, scoot over there if you want to give it a listen.

Y’all have a good Wednesday.

Hungry

Hungry
is what they are. These two boys are into eating. Their two younger brothers will eat and even like to eat, mostly. But these two, well, they are almost always in full calorie-hunt mode.

Today I asked J what he’d like for lunch. We’d just returned from school and it was 1 pm. I offered him choices. I said, “Would you like a pork chop and some rice or a peanut and jelly sandwich?” He didn’t even stop to think. “Both,” he said.

Then it hit me that this is only the beginning. Eventually, I will have 4 male teenagers — at the same time. Yikes. My grocery budget may never recover.

Happy Tuesday, y’all.

On Saturday

On Saturday
this thing walked into my kitchen.

He said, (muffled because of the mask), “I love you, Mom.” And then he tilted up his mask and gave me a smooch.

That’s what these boys are like — tough and sweet in equal measure. It’s nice to get a kiss from Ironman.

Happy Monday, y’all!
