Liking a Song About a Paranoid, Homicidal Gardner

Liking a Song About a Paranoid, Homicidal Gardner
wasn’t what I was expecting.

A few months ago, I got some free mp3s from HearYa. Among the singers was a fellow known as the Tallest Man on Earth. His songs stuck out to me of all of the songs that I got — not because I loved them but because his voice irritated me. In fact, during carpool one morning, I told my second son something like, “Hey, listen to this guy…his voice will drive you crazy.”

So, of course, it makes total sense that I love him now.

If I had to place this music I’d say Dylan-esque but with his own take. I love the guitar. I love the poetic lyrics that I don’t completely understand. I love the nasal voice, even.

Here he is on the Tiny Desk Concert done by NPR:

His latest album, Sometimes the Blues is Just a Passing Bird has landed him on many a “best of 2010” list.

Check him out, y’all!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

I hope that you all are having a great first day of 2011. This year I hope to look forward with anticipation and excitement and optimism. Of course, being optimistic opens oneself up to disappointment, heartbreak, even. But, I’ve found that I just can’t look at this thing called life any other way.

So, here’s a new year!
Here’s to optimism!
Here’s to looking ahead!
Here’s to trying for the best and for learning new things!

Have fun today…watch football, eat black-eyed peas, love your family and friends.

I wish y’all a blessed 2011!

Merry Christmas, Y’all!

Merry Christmas, Y’all!
I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas yesterday.

I don’t have much to report from where we are. We plan to eat food and watch football. Y’all know that I like food. Football is fun. Therefore the plan for today suits me fine.

We have no snow. That is fine with me too. I know that some of you might have snow, though, and some of you might have snow in heaps and drifts, even. So, I hope that you’re having fun with that.

If the wintery weather puts you in the mood for wintery music, then hop over to Wacktopia. J is singing “Winter Wonderland” sort of like Elvis today (can you tell, Elvis is a theme with that boy) and you might like it.

Have a great Sunday, y’all!

Chicken With Her Head Cut Off

Chicken With Her Head Cut Off
is the mode that I’m in right now.

So, that recipe I promised will have to wait for later. Sorry, y’all.

In the meantime, maybe you’d like to listen to J sing one of my favorite songs for days such as this.

Happy Thursday, everybody!
