Shoe Advice and Cinco de Mayo

Shoe Advice and Cinco de Mayo

Happy Cinco de Mayo, everyone! I hope that you have plans for margaritas, beer, guacamole, etc. I’m making nachos for the boys today and I’m also making this Creamy Chipotle Lime Dressing to go on my salad. Try it, please. It’s really wonderful.

Okay, now, y’all always have excellent advice and so I must ask your opinion on this sandal.

I got it yesterday at the Goodwill. Now, I don’t usually wear shoes like these, but they were brand new, Circa Joan and David brand, and they’ll look great with some other thrifty finds of mine like my white eyelet maxi dress and my Miss Liz skirt. I suppose that my question is whether the sandals are too (and I sort of dislike the word choice here) matronly. I’m a matron, you see, but I don’t really want to look “MawMaw” as my sister and I say.

What’s your vote?

I’m off to juice some limes, y’all.

Happy Thursday!

Apartment Love

Apartment Love

I just love this apartment that was recently featured on Design*Sponge. Why do I love it so? Let me count the ways. First off, it gets incredible light. Having good light is very, very high on my list of necessities in a space. Also, I love the art and how the designer was able to put together a velvet camel back sofa, Eames chairs, an industrial coffee table and have it all work so well together. The whole space looks organized and clean and interesting and not at all precious. Wonderful.

Okay, I’m going to ask my 11 year old if he can do a nest painting like that for me. I think that I need it — one egg for each of my crazy busters.

Today, I clicked over to the smallest, coolest contest and saw this apartment on there as a finalist. I hope it wins. Though, I don’t know, I really liked three of the finalists. Especially this A-frame house that I mentioned last week, too.

Finally, I wanted to mention this house tour on Apartment Therapy. It is a loft space and is the opposite of the usual space on AT since it is 3000 feet. You know the second floor of old stores? I always look up and wonder what is going on with those spaces. Well, this family is occupying just such a space in a small Oklahoma town and it’s brilliant. Skateboarding in the living room? Sign me up.

I hope y’all have had a good Wednesday!

Happy Sunday, Y’all

Happy Sunday, Y’all

I hope that you’re having a good day. After church and a meal I came home to watch the Cardinals, sew, and to just chill and get organized for the week ahead.

In this little house, this one that I share with a bunch of Barlow males and a dog and a parakeet, I’m just thankful. Reading about the devastation in the south, particularly in Phil Campbell, Alabama, and in Tuscaloosa, just makes me cringe. I personally know people who have been affected severely by the tornados. In fact, my 2nd grade teacher was one of the casualties.

Just a week ago, I bet a lot of those folks were celebrating Easter with their families and friends. They didn’t know what was coming just around the corner.

I know that we all feel blessed to have our lives.

I know that we try not to take living for granted.

I don’t know, just thinking about it all makes me even more motivated to not waste my life. It also makes me want to read Ecclesiastes for some reason. I don’t know.

Peace, y’all.
