Questions and Great Answers

Questions and Great Answers
I’ve mentioned here before about my oldest son and how he used to ask interesting questions of people. He had to learn about facial expression, age, gender, etc. as part of his education. And, I think that is why he asked those questions. Or, maybe it was just his way of starting a conversation. I’ll probably never know.

Well, for awile a few years ago, the main question he liked to ask was, “Are you an old man?” All the older men that he asked were very gracious in their answers to him. Most of them said, “Yes, I think I’m getting on up there,” or “That’s what my wife tells me”. Anyway, I think that the very best reaction of them all was when he asked an octogenarian at our church. The man was on his way across the fellowship hall while finishing up his cookie when J approached him and asked, “Are you an old man?” The man didn’t miss a beat and, with half a smile, quickly whipped out his wallet and said, “Am I an old man? Well, I don’t know. Lemme see.” He showed us his driver’s license/I.D. that had NON-DRIVER stamped across it. He then explained to J that since he was born over 80 years ago, according to his I.D., that yes, he was probably an old man. “Oh,” said J, “and, how did your ears get so tall?” The old man gave me a look like he was trying not to laugh and we wished him a good day.

That dear octogenarian died today. We will all miss him.

Cute Stationary

Cute Stationary
I love this stationary site. And, I didn’t even know that it was based in Birmingham until I had totally decided, if money were no object, that I would have one of everything in their store. Night Owl Paper Goods is definitely worth a look.

Last Night I…

Last Night I…
had the best cheeseburger of my life. I’m serious. Jon always does a good job with burgers but something magical happened out there in the grill last night. You know how most people who cook will say that there is one thing that they don’t do a good job on…for my Mom’s best friend, it’s caramel cake. She just won’t attempt it because she says that they never turn out right. And, with my Mom as her friend, she never needs to attempt a caramel cake because the Suz can make a fine caramel cake and would do it on demand if her friend needed one. Well, that is the case for me and burgers. I don’t wish to try making them again…and I don’t have to, because I live with the burger magician.

Also last night, I was really disappointed with who was eliminated on So You Think You Can Dance. Okay, well, I sort of understand why Ashlee had to go but Ricky— that was just wrong. He was brilliant. Those two guys that got to stay last night — nothing against them — but they will never make it to the end. Who cares about individuality at this point? You need versatility and individuality. It’s a shame. Part of me wonders if they just seized this opportunity to get back at Mia, since these two were her favorite dancers. All right, I’m done ranting about this.

All right, I’m off to the library (yeah!) and Wal-Mart (have mercy!) with my two bookend boys. The middle two are spending 2 weeks with their Mama Suzie. They are having a blast. In fact, I’m concerned that they might not want to come back to boring Missouri — well, hopefully they will. We’ve had a quiet week here, with them gone.

Fabric

Fabric
Why do I do it? I mean, I read lots of interesting design blogs, and when they mention somthing as being totally great, etc., I just have to see for myself. So, in following a link yesterday, I found what is probably my favorite online fabric store. I’ve been to many a fabric store in my life. So I think that I’ve got the cred to tell you that this store is great. It is a good thing that I don’t live in NY because I would be forever dreaming about going there — a lot. To me, buying fabric online is the same as anything else, I always wish that I could see it in person. But it sure is fun to click around here and dream a little. Hope that you enjoy, Purlsoho.com.
