Riding in a Van With a Boy

Riding in a Van With a Boy
I’ve been doing a bit of driving lately. This spring has been so beautiful. And, as much as I like sunny spring weather, there is something that I’ve always loved about seeing the green of spring trees against a grey sky.

Most of the time, when I’m driving, I have my youngest son with me. He is a great traveler — I think that part of this is due to being the fourth. When one is the fourth, one automatically gets dragged around everywhere. And he is usually happy to go.

Today we were listening to Frog and Toad while we were driving. If you have children or if you buy gifts for children, I highly recommend this CD. All of my boys love the stories. They are read by Arnold Lobel, the author of the books. He has such a relaxing voice that I told E after awhile that I was going to have to listen to something else, or I was going to fall asleep while driving. So I put on one of the mixed CDs that Jon made me. The third song on there was Thanks I Get by Wilco. I guess that I’ve listened to that song a lot because E immediately started singing along with the song. I told him that he was a great singer and he told me that he knew that he was a great singer.

I love the confidence of 4 year olds.

A Smattering of Thoughts and Jacket Pictures

A Smattering of Thoughts and Jacket Pictures

For some reason, my oldest son has the ritual of singing Brick House every time he is in the shower. I’m going to try and record it next time because it is so funny. He does the mouth trumpet and everything.

On Saturday, my youngest son and I were sitting outside enjoying the beautiful weather. One of our neighbors, a twenty-something blonde, went walking by with her dog. She didn’t really see us sitting there until my youngest yelled out, “Hewo, Wuvwy Wady!” while waving his little hand at her. She was talking on the phone at the time so she just waved back and, as far as I could tell, laughed all the way to the end of the street.

I’m still putting some finishing touches on my business before I put it out there for all of y’all to see. So, it is coming and I haven’t forgotten.

My youngest has just started going to pre-school a few afternoons each week. This is major. Not because he misses me. Not because I necessarily miss him, dear little boy that he is. No, it is major because this is the first time in 11 years that I have three hours a day that are all mine. And is this a problem? No. But it is going to take some adjustment on my part. My brain seems to spaz out worse when I have no one else around — like it can multitask with no problem but ask it to decide on a pair of sunglasses or a color of nail polish with no one around and all of a sudden it doesn’t work properly. The only thing I managed to do well during my break yesterday was to buy a cup of coffee, and I really can’ t count that as a success because it is practically involuntary for me. I’ll probably hit my stride with this time alone stuff right when school lets out for the summer. Figures.

Jon wrote a little program to help me put pictures on my blog all by myself. (Thanks, Jon!) So, here are some pictures of my jacket. I don’t usually wear it with jeans, by the way, and it is still sort of rumpled from when I wore it Sunday, but I wanted to get a picture taken this morning before the rain started. I’m pretty pleased with it.

And here is a sleeve detail:

And now y’all can all breathe a sigh of relief over the fact that I am now officially done talking about the jacket.

Yesterday Was the First World Autism Day

Yesterday Was the First World Autism Day
Here is a link to the story.

Every day is autism day for me. Indeed, if you’re feeling a little low on your own autism level then please do come on over. You’ll leave with your autism tank full to the brim.

Really, though, the awareness is good. I’m just a little weary, I think. Please excuse me. By the way, did you know that the dictionary.com Spanish word of the day is loco? I think that that describes me, too. Weary and loco. Not a good combination. Fear not. I’ll have two new words to describe me tomorrow…although, truthfully, loco may always apply.
