Elisabeth Elliot and Wordle

Elisabeth Elliot and Wordle

If my life is surrendered to God, all is well. Let me not grab it back, as though it were in peril in his hand but would be safer in mine.
Elisabeth Elliot

Something good for me to remember, I think.

I put the words for the quote in to the text box at Wordle and this is the result. Pretty neat, that Wordle site. Check it out.

Cheese, Ketchup and Pickles Only is a blog by our friends Austin and Megan.

These awesome folks lived just down the row from us on Gulf a few years ago. What dear people, y’all. Among other heroic acts, Austin entertained our boys while we were packing during a massive power outage 2 years ago and Megan listened patiently to all of our 3rd oldest son’s intricate, long stories. That alone puts them on the list of totally great people.

Right now, they are in Peru. Austin, who is a medical student at UAB, is learning things in a medical missionary clinic. It is really interesting to read about his reflections about Peru, the clinic, the poverty, and the culture there. I hope that y’all go give it a read.

For Your Listening Enjoyment…

For Your Listening Enjoyment…
My oldest listens to all sorts of songs (most from movies) during the computer time that he earns each day by doing his assigned reading. My youngest is usually there to listen along to all of the songs that his brother is interested in for that day.

This is my youngest son’s version of Tutti Frutti by Little Richard.
And, I have to say, that it’s too bad that we don’t have the video to go along with it so that you could see his hilarious dance that he does along with it.
I dare you to not smile when you listen to this.

Happy Monday, everybody.

You Might Want to File This One Away for Later

You Might Want to File This One Away for Later
My youngest son got it into his head the other day that he wanted some sugar cookies.
1) I didn’t want to go to the store to buy them
2) I happened to have the ingredients on hand
3) therefore we baked cookies in July……Hot, HOT July.

But in the process of making these cookies, we found a great new recipe. Now, you might want to save these for when you need some cookies this fall or around the holidays if you are not crazy and don’t cave into the urge to bake when the temperature is 95plus.

These are delicious cookies. We ate way too many of them. And, as a result, I’ve decided that I’m done baking cookies until October. When that month rolls around I’ll definitely be pulling this recipe out.

Easy Sugar Cookies

2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 t. baking soda
1/2 t. baking powder
1 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1 egg
2 t. Grand Marnier

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a small bowl, stir together flour baking soda and baking powder.
2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg and Grand Marnier. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients (I added flour 1/4 cup at a time). Use a tablespoon-sized ice cream scoop to portion the dough out on to the ungreased cookie sheets.
3. Bake 8-10 minutes or until just lightly touched with brown. Let stand on cookie sheet two minutes before removing to cool.

*Feel free to substitute vanilla for the Grand Marnier. Do you know why I use Grand Marnier instead of vanilla? Because I keep forgetting to buy it. Today I made different recipe that called for vanilla…..I used vodka for that one and it came out okay. Just put something in there.
