The Cookie Bandit

The Cookie Bandit
In the mornings, when I’m busy getting the other boys ready for school, I sometimes lose track of my youngest. Then I remember that he’s a cookie bandit. I look in my pantry and I see this

or this.

BUSTED!!
Look at him sitting pretty as you please on my flour canister. He has no guilty feelings about the whole business, either. The little buster helps himself.

Menu Planning

Menu Planning
I’m not so good with the menu planning thing. But it isn’t summer any more. And I have lots of places to be and these people who live with me still want to eat — a lot. So….my life is forcing me to be more organized.

Here’s what I’m planning.

Monday: Pasta with meatballs, sauteed spinach with garlic, bread
Tuesday: Turkey subs with pesto and tomato, sweet potato fries and roasted broccoli
Wednesday: Sauteed chicken tenders with sauce, broccoli leftovers, rice
Thursday: Pasta leftovers, sauteed spinach, fruit, bread,
Friday: chicken nachos, rice, fruit
Saturday: Salmon with lemon butter sauce, sauteed cherry tomatoes, rice, fruit
Sunday: Turkey subs with pesto and tomato, fries, fruit (lunch)
Breakfast for dinner – Breakfast for dinner – eggs, bacon, biscuits, fruit

I think that is it. You nutrition police don’t come get me, okay? This week is my experiment of what can happen when I have a plan. I’ll let you know how it turns out.

Update: The best laid plans aren’t worth squat when the debit card isn’t brought on the grocery trip. So I reckon my experiment with having a plan will be postponed until tomorrow. Typical.

A Beautiful Moth

A Beautiful Moth

Here is a photo that I took on one of my trips to the zoo last week. (Did you notice that I said one of my trips…that is a story in itself.) This moth is called the Madagascar Moon Moth. So, I asked the docent if this was like a luna moth. He said, “Well, yes. All except that it is bigger and, you know, from half way around the world.” He also told me that the adult moths have no way to eat once they become moths. So, they spend the 5 or so days of their lives as moths surviving on food that they consumed during previous life stages. Weird….and lovely.

Last Week in Pictures

Last Week in Pictures
I was too busy with logistics last week to get any of these pictures up. So, here we are, Sunday afternoon….time for the run down.

Here goes:

Son #2 on his first day of school. He was so excited.

Son #1 on his first day of school. He wasn’t holding still and so this shot is a little blurry. He wasn’t nervous. He was wondering what he would be having for lunch. Oh, to live in his universe where things that normally stress human beings just don’t count.

Here is #1 with Jon right before leaving. Jon is taking him to school this year (yea, Jon!) since we have 4 in 4 different schools. Just look at these two, if not for the freckles on #1 son’s nose, I would say that I was just the surrogate for Jon’s clone. Those freckle genes fight their way out, though, you know.

Number #3 son on his first day of school. He told his teacher that she made him feel warm inside. The teacher liked this — bless her. So far, he’s off to a great start.

And, finally, we have this little buster. Here is #4 on his first day of school. He was so excited that he couldn’t hold still, either. Now all I need to do is trim his bangs so that he can actually see the teacher, and all will be well.

So, that was the week that we had. First day over. First week over. Miles and miles driven — I feel like I basically spent my week in my van. You know what? I’m glad that we started school before Labor Day. A three day weekend soon after the start of school suits me very well.

Happy Labor Day, everybody.
