Please pray for my dad. His name is Joe and he lives in Alabama. He had an aneurysm in his brain today and is right now being flown to Birmingham for surgery. Thank you.

This is good. Jon and I had it for dessert last night over vanilla ice cream. He also added cut up bananas. Yum. I think that it would also be a great dessert for company. You could literally start making it when making the after dinner coffee and it would be ready to go in about 7 minutes, tops. Warm Rum-Toffee Sauce Yield: 1 1/2 cups. 3/4 cup plus 2 T. packed light-brown sugar 6 T. heavy cream 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter 1/2 t. vanilla 3 T. amber or dark rum Combine all of the ingredients in a heavy saucepan; place over medium heat. Boil until thick and well blended, about 3 minutes. Serve warm. (Leftover sauce can be covered and refrigerated for up to 1 week. Reheat in a small, heaby saucepan over low heat.) Enjoy.

My boys were let out of school at 1:00 because of the snow. I happened to be the lunchroom volunteer, so I was there to drive them home. Winter wonderland, wacky weather. The lunchroom volunteering went well, the only thing I did wrong was to give pears to one child who had only asked for mixed vegetables. He was too polite to tell me that I had made a mistake and he was at the table eating before I noticed what I had done. I’m learning a thing or two while helping out in the lunchroom. And I’m glad to help the school. And it is probably good for me to get out of the house. And I get to wear a baseball cap instead of a hairnet. Yea for that.

My baby is so great. He is learning so many things. Today, he took lots of independent steps. Two days ago, he pointed to the light when we asked him where it was. Yesterday he pointed to himself when we asked him where Eli was. He is also really affectionate — in a little boy baby sort of way. The other day when he saw me lie down on the couch he immediately crawled over and gave me a huge kiss (it was really more of a lick). But it was so darling for him to decide to do it. He will also give me a kiss, if I ask him for one. Today, I was giving him a hug and patting him on the back a little. He started patting me on the back. I said somthing like, “Oh, Eli, that is so sweet. You’re patting Mama on the back!” He then looked at me smiling, (and thinking, I could tell) and then started “patting” me all over the face, hard, with both hands. He was smiling a huge smile the whole time. I guess that he figured that if I liked him patting my back, that I would love for him to pat my face. Baby boy logic. Precious.
